We are looking for a full time National Assessment Advisor Science, with a speciality in Earth and Space Science.

This is an exciting and career-enhancing opportunity. As a National Assessment Advisor, you will have the opportunity to work with other moderators to ensure fair, valid and consistent assessment against national standards.

About the role 

The National Assessment Advisor is a subject expert and works to ensure that the internal assessment for qualifications in science is highly credible and consistent with the national standard. 

In this role, you will:

  • Moderate internally assessed Science and Earth and Space Science
  • Produce moderation reports for providers
  • Develop assessment resources such as exemplars and clarifications
  • Facilitate workshops
  • Provide advice on aspects of your subject
  • Provide advice and guidance on assessment and quality of internal assessment.

Skills and experience

The National Assessment Advisor will demonstrate:

  • Expert knowledge and experience in Science and Earth and Space Science.
  • Current experience in assessing achievement standards and/or unit standards in a New Zealand school.
  • An understanding of the principles of standards-based assessment and the purpose of moderation.
  • An understanding of the National Certificate of Educational Achievement and New Zealand Qualifications Framework.
  • Knowledge of the rights and responsibilities of the partners of the Treaty of Waitangi in an educational setting.
  • The ability to establish constructive working relationships with other professionals.
  • The ability to implement and maintain appropriate administrative and communication systems.
  • Clear and effective communication skills and ability to tailor your communication to different audiences, as appropriate.
  • Sound judgement and demonstrated ability to make robust, evidence-based decisions.
  • Experience in facilitating workshops or delivering presentations at regional or national conferences
  • Ability to operate competently in an online environment and be able to use online tools.

Qualifications Required

  • A teaching qualification or equivalent.
  • A degree relevant to the area of subject expertise.
  • Regional or national involvement in Science/Earth and Space Science – we are looking someone who doesn't only teach, but also has involvement in teaching groups, subject associations or communities of practice.
