About the role

  • Are you passionate about promoting mātauranga Māori for ākonga of today and tomorrow?
  • Are you able to navigate complex issues and lead cutting-edge initiatives?
  • Are you adept in whakawhanaungatanga, especially managing relationships with Māori?  

The NZQA Quality Assurance Division assures the quality of non-university tertiary education organisations and qualifications delivered across New Zealand.

Te Hono o Te Kahurangi is an evaluative quality assurance framework that recognises and validates mātauranga Māori in the qualifications system and contributes to meeting the needs and aspirations of Māori learners, their whānau, hapū and iwi.

The Manager Quality Assurance Māori is responsible for leading, developing and implementing Te Hono o te Kahurangi within the Division's work. In particular managing a small team for approval and accreditation applications and the external evaluation and review of tertiary education organisations using the Te Hono o Te Kahurangi evaluative approach.

The Manager Quality Assurance Māori is also responsible for providing expert advice and insights to drive and support the wider work of the Division in addressing issues of equity for ākonga Māori.

Skills and experience

This is a rewarding yet demanding role so to succeed you will be:

  • confident in te reo and tikanga Māori to engage effectively with Māori
  • knowledgeable about mātauranga Māori
  • a strong strategic and conceptual thinker
  • credible and experienced as a manager in education or quality assurance
  • a great relationship manager with an established network within the sector.
