We are looking for a National Assessment Moderator: Physics to join our Assessment and Moderation team on a one year fixed-term basis.

The role undertaken by a National Assessment Moderator is to:

  • moderate standards that are sent in by schools
  • complete a moderation report for that school
  • develop exemplars and
  • update assessment documents for teachers.


The skills we are also looking for include:

  • management of people towards a team environment that displays characteristics of a high performing team
  • national or regional creditability as an educational professional
  • close links with other Physics teachers, e.g. a member of the New Zealand Institute of Physics
  • ability to follow policies and procedures.


This is an exciting and career-enhancing opportunity. As a National Assessment Moderator you will have the opportunity to work with other moderators to ensure fair, valid and consistent assessment against national standards. You will also be required to write documents that are regularly published on our web site.

You must understand the principles of standards based assessment and have a working knowledge of the New Zealand Qualifications Framework and the NCEA. You must have recognised teaching and assessment expertise in your subject/s in New Zealand. It would also be good if you had recent experience with moderation in a school setting. Please state the supporting subjects you could work in.

NZQA may consider other locations with a working from home agreement.
