The NZQA Quality Assurance Division (QAD) is responsible for ensuring the quality of non-university tertiary education organisations and the qualifications and programmes being delivered across New Zealand. A component of that work focuses on the management of risk primarily within the non-university tertiary sector, and more recently with the pastoral care aspects of the secondary and primary sector. The success of this work is critical to the reputation of the New Zealand international education board.

Team Leader, Risk Management

Are you up for an exciting new challenge? We have an opportunity in our Risk team for the role of Team Leader, Risk Management.

We are seeking someone with successful track record in effective people management, and ideally with previous experience in an investigative role constantly subject to high level of legal and media scrutiny.

The Team Leader, Risk Management requires someone with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, who is flexible and responsive in their approach, who can deliver outcomes under pressure, and who can effectively build relationships with people at all levels of the organisation.

The role of Team Leader, Risk Management requires a balanced mix of accuracy and attention to detail to manage the regulatory nature of work, while at the same time having excellent interpersonal and communication skills when working with others in the Risk team, liaising with other NZQA business units, with other government agencies or working directly with providers or students in the tertiary education sector.

Those interested in the role can quickly identify the relevant issues and coach and mentor the team members to take the case to completion. The role involves:

  • Management of a team of Risk Case Analysts
  • Active management of risk cases allocated to the team
  • Collaborating positively with other staff in the Risk team
  • Building strong working relationship with management and leaders within the Quality Assurance Division
  • Engaging with students and tertiary education organisations
  • Actively liaising with relevant external agencies

To succeed in this role, you will be a strong team player who is comfortable working in a team with an open and collaborative culture, managing and coaching professional staff, achieving a high workload under constant pressure, and being able to perform at a consistently high level. You will be required to undertake work that will influence both students and tertiary education providers.
